Zelensky in Brussels: Belgium must agree to reparations credit for Ukraine.
According to ТСН: The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, met with the Prime Minister of Belgium, Bart De Wever, in Brussels. During the meeting, they discussed mechanisms for using frozen Russian assets.
Discussion of Important Issues
Zelensky expressed his thoughts on issues related to the reparations credit. He noted:
“I understand all of Belgium's concerns; however, the decision regarding the reparations credit must be made. It is fair and will provide long-term predictability for Ukraine.”
During the conversation, the politicians also discussed the coordination of diplomatic efforts between Europe and the USA to achieve peace, Ukraine's prospects for membership in the European Union, and support for the energy system and its recovery.
Gratitude to Belgium
Zelensky expressed gratitude to Belgium and its people for supporting Ukraine since the beginning of the war and for the country's contribution to the PURL initiative.
Risks Without Financial Support
The President of Ukraine warned that the absence of reparations credit from frozen Russian assets would make Ukraine vulnerable. He noted that the lack of this financial support could prompt the Kremlin to continue its aggression, as it would see weaknesses in Ukraine's positions and a deficit of resources for defense.
It should also be noted that the day before, Belgium made a new demand to the EU regarding the use of Russian assets for reparations credit to Ukraine, particularly by creating an additional financial buffer to protect against potential threats from Russia.
This meeting underscores the importance of international support for Ukraine amid aggression. Discussing mechanisms for financial assistance and deepening cooperation with European partners is critically important for ensuring stability and security in the region.
