Catherine Deneuve dedicated the César Awards ceremony to Ukraine
French actress Catherine Deneuve made a speech during the jubilee ceremony of the César awards, dedicating it to Ukraine. On the lapel of her jacket, she adorned a brooch in the shape of the Ukrainian flag and stated: 'I declare the 50th César awards ceremony open and dedicate it to Ukraine.' The stars in the hall responded with applause.
During her speech, which took place after the conflict between US presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, Catherine Deneuve expressed her support for Ukraine.
This is not the first time the actress has declared her support for Ukraine. Earlier, she recited a poem by Lesya Ukrainka 'Hope' during the opening of the Cannes Film Festival in 2013.
In 2023, on the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, more than 30 global stars expressed their support for Ukrainians, several of whom spoke in Ukrainian. Catherine Deneuve was also one of these prominent figures.
