In an effort to leave a grand legacy, the Crown Prince aims to build a megacity in the Saudi Arabian desert, but this entails significant costs for the country. New reports indicate that thousands of migrant workers have gone missing during the construction of NEOM.

Saudi Arabia relied on migrant labor for construction activities, but this causes difficulties and labor rights violations. About 100,000 migrants have lost contact. The project has also faced criticism for human rights violations and the forced eviction of indigenous communities. Efforts to attract foreign investments are also falling short, as investors fear uncertainty and low returns.
