Macron accused of sabotaging Hamas-Israel negotiations: what Rubio said.
French President Emmanuel Macron derailed negotiations for a ceasefire between Israel and the Hamas group. U.S. Secretary Marco Rubio stated that this happened due to Macron's decision to recognize the Palestinian state.
Rubio added that after this decision, many other countries also supported Palestine.
Why the Hamas-Israel negotiations fell through
According to Rubio, Hamas decided not to conclude a truce due to the potential victory in the war, as they could be rewarded for it.
'If I were in Hamas, I would decide this: 'Let's not conclude a truce... because we could be rewarded, we could interpret this as a victory,' said the Secretary of State.
These events occurred against the backdrop of the failure of the latest negotiations with the Hamas movement in Qatar, after which Israel began large-scale military operations in the Gaza Strip.
Macron justified his decision, claiming that recognizing Palestine would help end the conflict and save civilian lives.
However, the Prime Minister of Israel and the U.S. Secretary of State condemned this decision. Rubio even called it a slap in the face to the victims of Hamas's attack on Israel.
Ukrainian diplomats urged Hamas to lay down their arms to ease tensions in the region.
Ukraine, along with other countries, is responding to the complex situation in Israel and the Gaza Strip, where military actions have again escalated due to Macron's decision to recognize Palestine. The further development of events is still unpredictable.
