According to inkorr.com: On September 5, journalist and former deputy Oleksandr Takhytai was found dead in his apartment in Yamplі, Sumy region. This information was reported by the publication 'Hlavkom', citing 'Suspilne Sumy'.

Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the circumstances of the journalist's death. The final cause of death will be known after an examination and further investigative actions, which include checking for a possible connection to his professional activities.

It was noted that Takhytai was investigating corruption schemes during the construction of fortifications in the region.

Oleksandr Takhytai was previously the editor-in-chief of the newspaper 'Yampilskyi Krai' and a deputy of the Yampil District Council. In August 2025, he reported that shots were fired at his summer house from an unknown weapon, and a smoke grenade was found in his apartment.

At that time, the journalist speculated that the attack could have involved an SBU officer and a reserve officer. The police opened a criminal proceeding under part 1 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - 'Hooliganism, that is, a gross violation of public order, motivated by blatant disrespect for society, accompanied by particular audacity or exceptional cynicism.'

In the communications department of the Sumy region police, it was clarified that as of September 6, the pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
