Analyst on Zelensky's meeting with Putin: what to expect from the negotiations

The Russians are looking for ways to avoid the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Putin. And even if it does happen, one can expect not a constructive dialogue, but accusations from Kyiv of 'violating peace agreements' and 'unwillingness to achieve peace.' This opinion was expressed by military analyst Oleksii Hetman on the FREEДОМ channel.

“The Russians stated in response that, as it were, no, we do not want a truce, we want immediate comprehensive peace, so we will continue to shoot. Well, okay, we heard this, understood, so you do not want it. Next - talks about Zelensky and Putin's meeting, and then a three- or four-party meeting, with Trump, Zelensky, European leaders, and Putin,” noted the analyst.

According to Hetman, there are opinions that, probably, the Russians will plan not to allow Zelensky to meet with Putin.

“And if the negotiations take place, then, probably, Putin will provoke Zelensky into some conflict. They unfortunately know how to do that, to switch from a constructive conversation to an emotional one. And then, of course, blame the Ukrainian side for not wanting peace. Even if the first meeting between Zelensky and Putin takes place, in a three- or four-party format, the Russians will likely avoid it,” predicted Hetman.

None of what Ukraine and all of Europe are currently offering, Putin will fulfill. He is interested in dragging out the war, the analyst believes.

“And only when the US leader sees that all possible proposals, including those initiated by Washington, have been rejected by Russia, will Trump's position likely change, he will be forced to change it. Then we can count on serious sanctions against the Russian Federation and on arms supplies to Ukraine,” said Hetman.

He added that, according to President Zelensky, one of the security guarantees for Ukraine is a minimum of 10 Patriot systems, as well as the possibility to buy at least 100 billion worth of arms from the United States.

“For security guarantees, besides paperwork, we need about a thousand Flamingo-type missiles that can be launched over long distances. This is unfortunately the best guarantee of security,” summarized the guest of the broadcast.

It was previously reported that Switzerland is ready to host a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Putin. The latter is promised immunity from prosecution by the International Criminal Court.

The Russians, using various tactics, are trying to avoid a meeting between the presidents of Russia and Ukraine. There are assumptions that even if the meeting takes place, it may not be a constructive dialogue, but attempts to shift the blame onto Ukraine. Nonetheless, international relations and community pressure may force Russia to negotiate and compromise in the future.
