Today, February 12, several significant dates are celebrated in Ukraine and around the world. In particular, this is the Day of Sexual and Reproductive Health, the Day of Child Soldiers, the International Day of Science and Humanism, and the International Day of Marriage Agencies. In addition, on this day, the memory of St. Meletius is celebrated.

The Day of Sexual and Reproductive Health is honored on February 12 both in Ukraine and worldwide. It is a day when various events are held, such as lectures, medical consultations, flash mobs, and campaigns on social networks. Issues of sexual and reproductive health are especially important for young people, as they help avoid unwanted consequences and contribute to the overall welfare of society.

This day unites marriage agencies and is celebrated two days before Valentine's Day.

February 12 also honors the memory of child soldiers as part of the Red Hand Day, which was initiated by the United Nations in 2009. The aim of this day is to prevent the recruitment of minors and support children who have become victims of military conflicts. According to reports, about 250,000 minors serve in military armies, one third of whom are girls.

February 12 is also celebrated as the International Day of Science and Humanism, which is also known as Darwin Day. This honors the famous English scientist Charles Darwin, who created the theory of natural selection and the theory of evolution. His influence on science was extremely significant, and his scientific theories are recognized as a major achievement.

Also, on February 12, Ukraine celebrates the International Day of Marriage Agencies. This day is yet another way to emphasize the importance of the existence of marriage agencies and their role in forming family relationships. This holiday falls two days before Valentine's Day.

In the church calendar, February 12 is celebrated as the Day of St. Meletius, who was the Bishop of Antioch in the 4th century. St. Meletius is known as a fighter against heretics and was one of the participants in the Second Ecumenical Council in 381. For this occasion, there are specific signs and prohibitions, such as avoiding borrowing money, negative thoughts about others, starting new affairs, and long journeys.

February 12 also coincides with a number of historical events, including the ban on Islam by Queen Isabella of Castile in 1502, the annexation of the Galapagos Islands by Ecuador in 1832, the burning of the second volume of 'Dead Souls' by Nikolai Gogol in 1852, and others.

Today, names like Anton, Eugene, Maria, and Alexey can also be celebrated.
