World Barber Day
This global event highlights the important role that barbers play in communities around the world. World Barber Day honors the skill and creativity that barbers bring to their profession.
International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer
This holiday was established by the UN General Assembly in 1994 to commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol. The Montreal Protocol, which was signed on September 16, 1987, is an international agreement aimed at protecting the ozone layer by reducing the production and consumption of substances that deplete it.
The ozone layer plays an important role in protecting life on Earth as it absorbs harmful ultraviolet radiation from the Sun. The depletion of the ozone layer can lead to an increase in skin cancer cases, cataracts, and other health problems, as well as negatively impacting ecosystems.
Church Holiday
On September 16, the church calendar commemorates the memory of the holy great martyr Euphemia. She was also known as Euphemia of Chalcedon and suffered for her faith during the persecution of Christians. She was tortured and thrown into the arena to be torn apart by wild animals, but the animals did not touch her. Euphemia gave her soul to God.
An important significance is the miracle associated with her relics. At the Fourth Ecumenical Council in Chalcedon, her relics bore witness to the truth of Orthodox doctrine.
