Ukraine Implements Hourly Power Outage Schedules for January 22.
Hourly Power Outage Schedules Across Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: On January 22, 2023, Ukraine will implement scheduled hourly power outages for both residential and industrial consumers. The national power company, 'Ukrenergo', announced this measure on January 21, stating it is a direct result of Russian missile and drone attacks targeting the country's energy infrastructure. These attacks are part of a broader campaign to cripple Ukraine's critical systems during the ongoing war.
State of the Energy Grid
The situation within the energy grid remains severe. In Kharkiv, over half a million subscribers remain without electricity, while in Kyiv, 60% of the city is without power. Additionally, approximately 4,000 buildings in the capital are without heating. In response, 'Ukrenergo' is urging all consumers to use electricity sparingly during the periods it is available according to the schedule.
The introduction of these hourly schedules is intended to stabilize the national grid and ensure the safe operation of the energy system during the current crisis.
This decision underscores the severity of the situation in Ukraine's energy sector, where sustained attacks on infrastructure have critically complicated the electricity supply.
Applying these outage schedules aims not only to conserve energy resources but also to reduce the load on the power grid, which is critically important under wartime conditions. Consumers are advised to be mindful of their electricity usage, as this can help prevent even more severe supply issues in the future.
