According to The Sun: Several railway stations have been transformed into interesting establishments with new concepts.
From dark escape rooms to stylish American-style restaurants and hotels, not to mention the Wetherspoons pub – here are a few favorites from Sun Travel.
South Kentish Town station now operates as an escape room You can take a tour of other closed underground stationsSouth Kentish Town Station
Initially, South Kentish Town was a popular stop for passengers on the London Underground.
The station opened in 1907 and served on the northern line to High Barnet.
It closed in the 1920s but has recently reopened as an escape room.
The establishment is called 'Mission: Breakout, Kentish Town'; it features three rooms with different puzzles.
One of the games is called 'The Lost Passenger,' based on a true story of a man who vanished at the station in 1924, and takes place in the dark.
Players
race against the clock to escape the station by solving a series of quite challenging tasks and puzzles.
Aldwych and Down Street
For those curious about what lies beneath the surface on urban streets, Hidden London offers a unique perspective.
Aldwych station, publicly known as Strand station, closed in 1994 due to low passenger traffic.
This station has not been used since then, but tours are conducted explaining the ticket hall from the early 20th century and its role as a shelter during the war.
Down Street operated from 1907 to 1932.
Southampton Terminus station closed due to a decline in passenger numbers
Southampton Terminus Station
Southampton Terminus served the port of Southampton from 1840 until 1966.
However, by 1895 the Southampton Central station had opened, quickly becoming more popular.
After its closure, all services were redirected to Southampton Central, which is still operational.
The terminus has changed its appearance and now houses a lively casino.
The establishment belongs to Genting Casino Southampton and features classic games such as American roulette, blackjack, and slots.
There is also a bar that operates until 4 AM.
Tunbridge Wells West station closed in 1985
Tunbridge Wells West Station
This station in Kent, formerly known as Tunbridge Wells West, was one of two serving Royal Tunbridge Wells.
The station opened in 1866, with the last passenger services taking place in July 1985.
Now the building is almost unrecognizable, having been transformed into a Wild West-style restaurant called Smith & Western.
They serve burgers, tacos, and other dishes.
The restaurant has a hotel with nine rooms, decorated in a Wild West style.
One guest wrote on Tripadvisor:
“What a lovely quirky place. It was nice to see an old railway station still in use.”

Aberystwyth Station
Wetherspoons is known for transforming old and unusual buildings, and this one in Aberystwyth is no exception.
The original Aberystwyth station building was converted into one of the pubs in this chain.
The station opened in 1864, making Aberystwyth a popular resort.
In 1925, the old wooden station was replaced with a 'grand terminal'.
The old building has now become a pub, with the entrance to the station located at the back.
The pub retains original platform signs outside and has a view of part of the station that still functions.
Wetherspoons has opened in Walham Green
The market at Fulham Broadway has just opened as a Wetherspoons pub
Fulham Broadway Station
Located in the former ticket office, Fulham Broadway Wetherspoons opened in June 2025.
This pub is situated in one of the former entrances to Fulham Broadway station, which closed in 2003.
The station was opened in March 1880 under the name Walham Green and initially served the District Railway, known today as the District Line.
The old station building was later replaced in 1905 by a new entrance, and the name was changed in 1952.
A food court operated here since 2018, but it closed three years ago.
Now, it is a place to enjoy breakfast and drinks.
The Wellesley hotel was once an exit to the Hyde Park Corner station
The Wellesley Hotel
Hyde Park Corner station is still operational, yet its above-ground ticket hall was closed in 1937, and since then, the building has been used for various purposes.
For thirty years, until 2010, there was a jazz hall and restaurant known as Pizza on the Park.
In 2012, it was transformed into the Wellesley boutique hotel, preserving the station's architecture with red tiles.
The transformation into a five-star hotel included a massive renovation, with chandeliers and Italian marble in the bathrooms.
Although it is not a former station, London tunnels are transforming, and the deepest bar in the city will be appearing here.
Currently, three historical railway stations are available as part of a new tourist program in Ukraine, but only until the end of the year.
