Trump on Putin: 'I am not a fan, he is killing too many people'.
According to ТСН: US President Donald Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with Vladimir Putin, noting that he, continuing the war against Ukraine, 'is killing too many people'. These words were spoken during a press conference in Florida when Trump was responding to journalists' questions about his conversation with Putin that concerned former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Trump recounted that during the military operation in Caracas, US special forces captured Maduro and his wife.
'We never talked about leader Nicolás Maduro,' Trump said.
Responding to a question about whether he is angry with Putin, Trump said:
'I mean, I am not a fan of Putin. I am not a fan of Putin. He is killing too many people,' the US president replied.
Trump also emphasized that establishing peace between Russia and Ukraine should be simple, but the reality turned out to be more complicated. He noted that both sides committed serious crimes and stressed the need to stop the war:
'Listen, this is Biden's war. This is not my war, but I want to stop (taking) lives...'
The president provided examples of numerous casualties, emphasizing the horrific consequences of the conflict:
'Did you see that last month 30 thousand mostly soldiers died? I want to stop this...'
Trump expressed hope for achieving progress in settling the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine.
At the same time, discussions about supporting Ukraine are intensifying in the US. Ronald Reagan Republican Club President Boris Pinkus noted that favorable narratives for the Kremlin are spreading among Trump’s circle, particularly through intelligence reports that downplay Putin's aggressive intentions.
In the Republican Party, support for a tougher approach to Russia is growing, and there are already enough votes in the Senate to impose new sanctions. This could lead to increased pressure on the Kremlin in the near future.
Thus, Trump's statements reflect the tension in US-Russia relations and emphasize the importance of supporting Ukraine in the context of the ongoing conflict. Such meetings could determine Washington's future policy towards Moscow and Kyiv in the coming months.
