How the Kursk Operation Influenced the Course of the War: Analysis by The Telegraph.
The operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk sector has been ongoing for more than a month and has already yielded results. Ukraine has already captured over 1300 square kilometers of Russian territory, including the gas hub of Sudzha. In addition, Ukrainian troops have established a military administration and accumulated armored vehicles to strengthen the contingent in the Sumy region.
According to The Telegraph, these achievements indicate defensive gaps in Russia. Russian troops, who encountered insufficiently trained conscripts and evacuated cities, were unable to effectively counter the Ukrainian advance.
However, Ukrainian troops do not intend to leave the captured territories, making a ceasefire and freezing the conflict impossible. Such military successes have boosted the morale of Ukrainian soldiers, but the results on the front still do not correspond to the scale of the achievements.
The Telegraph emphasizes that these achievements have helped unite Ukrainian soldiers around the commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrsky. He has demonstrated his effectiveness, although he has received criticism for his command style and personal connections. Syrsky has become a worthy successor to Zaluzhny and has received Zelensky's support.
This operation has also encouraged Ukraine's Western supporters. Despite the lack of a large-scale escalation by Russia, fears about the further development of the conflict remain. Holding the captured territory reduces pressure on Kyiv to make territorial concessions.
Problems with Acquiring Weapons
However, the Ukrainian army still finds it difficult to acquire complex weapons. Deliveries of the JASSM missile from the USA may be delayed due to technical difficulties. Germany did not permit the export of the Taurus missile, and the UK has yet to unblock the use of Storm Shadow missiles against Russian targets.
It is worth noting that the Estonian Minister of Defense stated that Ukraine is gaining an advantage in negotiations with Russia.
