The Economy of Russia on the Brink: How Its Collapse Could Accelerate Peace in Ukraine.
According to ТСН: Negotiations with Russia seem futile, as the Kremlin does not understand the importance of signing agreements and constantly makes cynical demands, rendering diplomacy ineffective. The resolution of the conflict in Ukraine depends not on diplomatic efforts, but on the destruction of the Russian economy, which is facing significant difficulties.
This position was expressed by the former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the head of the Center for Russian Studies Volodymyr Ogryzko.
The State of the Russian Economy
According to the diplomat, Russia's resources are quickly depleting, which gives reason to believe that the war may end soon. If 60% of Russians do not have a financial 'cushion', they risk being left without means of subsistence in case of job loss. This indicates the critical state of the Russian economy.
“Putin has brought the Russian economy and the Russian population 'to their knees'. We see that entire sectors of the economy are stagnating. Even the military industry has started going 'into the red'. What can be said about other sectors then?”
Ogryzko emphasized that the worsening economic situation in Russia could accelerate the establishment of peace. However, many people do not realize the importance of this fact and believe that peace can be achieved through quick agreements.
“For Putin, fixing something means absolutely nothing. I spent several years in direct negotiations with Russians. They do not understand what a signature on a document means. For them, it is nothing.”
The former minister stressed that Russia accepts any agreements only when it is beneficial for them, and as soon as this benefit disappears, the signed documents lose any value.
The Language of Strength and the Strategy for Peace
According to Ogryzko, only the language of strength can be effective in negotiations with Moscow. Having a powerful army, long-range missiles, and fighter jets is the only way to achieve peace. Complete weakening of the Russian economy is a necessary condition for achieving stable peace.
Journalist Vitaly Portnikov also emphasized that even if President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signs an agreement, it will make no sense, as the Russians will not keep their promises. Portnikov believes that Putin will only calm down when Russian troops control the territory from Uzhhorod to Kharkiv, as the Kremlin still dreams of Ukraine disappearing from the world map.
These expert comments indicate the complicated and tense relations between Ukraine and Russia. The war continues, and the prospect of peace seems extremely distant without significant changes in the Russian economy and politics. The importance of strength and decisive actions in negotiations underscores the seriousness of the situation. It is clear that achieving lasting peace will require more than just signed documents — it is necessary to effectively influence the real state of affairs in Russia.Read also
