The doctor called an unexpected way to combat anxiety: what to eat.
According to ТСН: Modern lifestyle brings a lot of stress and anxiety. However, a British doctor has found an unusual solution that can help reduce nervous tension without medication. It concerns a particular type of candy that may promote calmness.
Using sour sweets
Family doctor Raj Aurora shared tips on how to combat anxiety and its symptoms. In her opinion, sour sweets can be helpful in this struggle.
“This is something that actually helps if you're feeling anxious. The idea behind this is sensory experience. Eating sour sweets will calm you down, distract you from an anxiety attack, and kind of 'switch' your attention to something else,” Raj explained.
However, the doctor also emphasized that this is not a permanent treatment for anxiety.
“Sweets contain a lot of processed sugar. They have high sugar content and are generally not very good for your health. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend just eating a large amount of this product,” warned Raj.
She claims that this approach works because it helps the brain switch attention. Instead of feeling anxious, you focus on the sensations in your mouth.
Other methods of combating anxiety
If the sour sweets method doesn't suit you, the doctor recommends another effective technique known as 'grounding.' It helps to distract from negative thoughts.
Here are some ways she suggests:
step outside and stand on the grass;
stomp your feet on the ground;
hold ice in your hand;
use breathing techniques.
Doctor Raj also emphasizes the importance of consulting a family doctor if you suffer from anxiety.
In conditions of constant stress and anxiety, it is important to find ways to relieve tension. Raj Aurora offers quite simple yet creative solutions that can help shift the focus of attention. Sour sweets, while not a panacea, can be one of the elements in the arsenal of methods for combating anxious states. However, it is also important to remember about health - an active lifestyle and regular consultations with a doctor still remain the top priority in maintaining psychological comfort.
