How the Attitude of Ukrainians Towards March 8 Has Changed: Survey Recorded a Trend.

International Women's Day in Ukraine: Popularity and Attitude
In recent years, the popularity of International Women's Day on March 8 in Ukraine has decreased from 49% in 2017 to 21% in 2024. However, in 2025, this popularity rose to 23%. This may indicate a stabilization of the attitude towards the holiday after a decline. For some Ukrainians, this day remains an important holiday, and its popularity does not depend on gender and age. A survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology showed that in the West, the holiday is popular among 6% of the population, in the Center among 24%, in the South - 32%, and in the East - 40%. The survey was conducted among 1,000 respondents from February 4-9, 2025, excluding residents of uncontrolled territories and those who left for abroad after February 24, 2022. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, congratulated Ukrainian women on International Women's Day for Women's Rights and Peace.
Abolition of the March 8 Holiday: New Meaning
The abolition of the March 8 holiday is considered an issue that is gaining new significance in the context of Ukraine's desire to move away from Soviet heritage. Despite this, businesses related to selling flowers and decorations actively promote their products ahead of this holiday. Jewelry stores also offer huge discounts on jewelry before March 8. It is worth noting that some members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine proposed to abolish the March 8 holiday, but a survey on the 'Diia' portal showed that the majority of Ukrainians support its retention as a day off.
