Danish Prime Minister on Greenland: US Military Operation Would Mean the End of NATO.
According to ТСН: Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized that any attempt by the United States to take control of Greenland by military means would be catastrophic for the North Atlantic Alliance.
Frederiksen's Statements
In an interview with TV2, Frederiksen stated:
“I believe that the statements by the American president about the desire to control Greenland should be taken seriously. But I also want to make it clear: if the US decides to attack another NATO country, it would mean the end of the Alliance and a loss of the security it has guaranteed since the end of World War II.”
Copenhagen's Concern
The Danish government expressed concern over repeated statements by Donald Trump regarding control over Greenland in the interest of national security. This comes against the backdrop of a US operation in Caracas, where American forces detained Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
Trump's Demands
Trump has long spoken about the necessity of control over Greenland from a national security perspective. Recently, in response to reporters' questions during a flight, he stated:
“We will talk about Greenland in about two months. Let’s discuss it in 20 days.”
Danish and European Position
The Danish Prime Minister reacted to these words, calling for an end to threats and emphasizing the sovereignty of Greenland, which is part of Denmark and a member of NATO. Leaders of European countries also expressed support for Denmark and Greenland, stressing the adherence to international law.
Danger to Greenland
It was previously reported that the Trump administration's operation to detain Maduro has raised serious concern in Europe. The issue of Greenland has become particularly alarming in the context of negotiations to end Russia's war against Ukraine: could Greenland become the next target from Washington?
The mentioned events indicate significant tension in international relations and concern among European countries regarding potential US actions. Protecting Greenland's sovereignty is becoming an important topic in the context of global security, and this situation reflects the rising tension between states on the world stage.
