History of the village
The village of Yamelnitsia was founded in the 13th century and has survived numerous changes and trials, especially during World War II.
In 1938, a local branch of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, best known as OUN, was established in Yamelnitsia. A year later, when the village was occupied by the Soviet army, the OUN members began to be persecuted.
In 1943-1944, around two hundred UPA insurgents operated in Yamelnitsia and its surroundings, resisting the invaders.

The Yamelnitsia rocks are a unique complex in the Ukrainian Carpathians that served as a resistance location during World War II. Today you can visit the UPA hideouts and enjoy the amazing views of the mountainous landscape.
