Are Americans Preparing for Civil War After Elections? Poll Data.
A quarter of Americans believe that a civil war may begin in the US after the elections, according to a poll by YouGov, as reported by Time magazine.
27% of adult US citizens believe that the outbreak of violence after the elections is very or somewhat likely. At the same time, this opinion is shared by 30% of women and 24% of men.
The poll also showed that 12% of respondents stated that they personally know someone who might take to the streets with a weapon if they believed the election victory was a sham. Additionally, 5% responded that they know someone who might do the same due to the belief that the opponent in the election was dodging the truth.
“When compared with a checklist of factors that could lead to the outbreak of civil conflict, the United States ... have entered very dangerous territory,” noted the historian of the American Civil War of 1861-1865, Barbara Walter.
According to Barbara Walter, they have come closer to civil war than they would like to admit due to political extremism, cultural tribalism, the spread of conspiracy theories, the presence of weapons and paramilitary groups, and the undermining of faith in government and democracy.
It is reported that Republicans in Congress are already preparing a program for President Donald Trump in case he wins the election. The action plan is designed for the first 100 days of the presidency. According to sources, Republicans in the Senate and the House of Representatives expect to control the White House and Congress after the elections, so they are actively preparing for this.
