Roller Coaster: BBC assessed how Trump's victory will affect Ukraine.
Experts are analyzing the impact of Donald Trump's victory in the US elections on Ukraine. According to the director of the "New Europe" Center Ukraine Olena Hetmanchuk, Trump may help stop the war in Ukraine, but not completely end it. She demands that Trump demonstrate readiness to make specific political decisions and not fear an escalation of the conflict. According to journalist Vitaliy Portnikov, the results of the war in Ukraine depend on the president of Russia, not the president of the USA. Political scientist Volodymyr Fesenko claims that with Trump's victory, Ukraine needs to prepare for negotiations with Russia and a reduction in financial aid. He also notes that it depends on Trump whether Ukraine can join NATO and receive security guarantees from the USA. Olena Hetmanchuk believes that Trump's victory gives Ukraine a chance to change its policy and get closer to European countries. Fesenko adds that Trump may use military assistance as leverage in negotiations. It should also be remembered that Trump supported Zelensky after his election victory.
