Asda fined £130,000 for selling expired products.
Fine for Asda for selling unfit food
According to The Sun: The major supermarket chain Asda will pay a fine of £130,000 for selling products that have passed their expiry date.
The sanction was imposed after an inspection during which inspectors discovered 59 items that were out of date.
Among the items found on the shelves were spoiled ham, cheesecake, creme fraiche, and smoked salmon that should have been disposed of.
As a result of the violations, three employees were dismissed, and one of them submitted a resignation at the Huyton store near Liverpool.
In particular, packages of meat were found to be two days past their expiry date, and packages of smoked salmon were sold four days after the indicated date.
Knowsley Council believes that Asda has a 'fundamental problem' with its expiry date coding system.
At a court hearing in Sefton, Asda, which suffered losses of £763 million last year, was also ordered to pay Knowsley Council costs of £11,014.15 and a fine of £2,000 after admitting guilt in six breaches of food safety and hygiene regulations.
The company has already spent £1.3 million on addressing the situation, including implementing a new coding system and retraining staff.
In June, Asda received a fine of £640,000 for selling expired goods at a store in Cardiff, and previously the company also paid fines of £250,000 and £410,000 for violations of food safety regulations in stores in Derbyshire and Cornwall.
PAThis situation highlights the seriousness of food safety control in supermarkets. Fines and management changes may provide a significant impetus for Asda to improve its customer service standards. Consumers can expect the company to take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
