Putin told Trump about a drone attack on his residence: WSJ reveals the purpose of the fake

According to ТСН: Russian President Vladimir Putin likely deceived Donald Trump by claiming that Ukrainian drones launched a massive strike on his residence. The main goal of this information campaign is to undermine the positive trend following Trump’s meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky.

As The Wall Street Journal notes, Putin's statement came suspiciously timely — right after Trump reportedly had a successful meeting with the Ukrainian leader. He learned about the 'incident' directly from Putin.

“I learned about this today from President Putin. I was very angry about it,” the publication quotes Trump.

The American leader emphasized that a “delicate period” is currently ongoing and called the attack on the Russian president's residence unacceptable.

Why it’s fake

However, Russia's version raises serious doubts. Volodymyr Zelensky categorically denied the accusations, calling the information about the strike on the residence a “fabrication”.

Independent analysts also react skeptically to this statement. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) emphasizes that usually, when Ukraine launches serious strikes on Russian territory, the information channels are flooded with evidence: drone flight videos, air defense operations, fires, and debris.

“As of Monday, we still have not seen anything similar related to the alleged strike on Putin’s residence,” stated ISW analyst Grace Mappes.

The Kremlin claims to have destroyed “all 91 drones,” so there was no destruction. However, experts note that with such a massive attack, the lack of visual evidence looks abnormal.

What is the true goal of the Kremlin

According to WSJ, it benefits Putin to fabricate this story right now. Firstly, it’s an attempt to complicate the relationship between Trump and Zelensky. Secondly — to create a pretext for abandoning peace initiatives.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has already stated that due to the “attack,” Moscow’s negotiation position “will be revised.”

“The task for Mr. Putin is how to say 'no' to Mr. Trump’s attempts to reach a peace agreement while continuing to depict Ukraine as an obstacle,” the article states.

This situation can be considered cynical: while Putin complains about fictitious attacks, Russia has repeatedly attempted to physically eliminate Volodymyr Zelensky by launching missile strikes on Kyiv and Odesa during visits of international delegations.

It is worth noting that in the USA, there was a critical reaction to Trump’s statements regarding Russia’s alleged drone attack on Vladimir Putin’s residence. Congressman Don Bacon urged Trump and his team to fact-check before making public conclusions, emphasizing that the Kremlin has spread false information multiple times. Trump himself admitted that he has no confirmed evidence of such an attack and concedes that it may not have happened.

This situation demonstrates how important it is to rigorously verify information, especially amid growing tensions between the USA and Russia. The purpose of this incident is likely not only disinformation but also attempts to manipulate international relations in favor of the Kremlin. Whether this will affect negotiations between Trump and Zelensky remains to be seen.
