Russian Strikes on Energy Grid Leave Four Ukrainian Regions Without Power; Nationwide Blackout Schedules Announced.
Widespread Blackouts Triggered by Russian Attacks on Power Infrastructure
According to Novyny.live: On April 1, 2023, four regions in Ukraine were plunged into darkness following Russian military assaults on the country's energy infrastructure. In response, authorities have implemented power rationing schedules across all regions from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time.
A significant number of consumers in the Sumy region lost electricity entirely. Partial power outages also affected parts of the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Kharkiv regions. These measures are a direct consequence of recent attacks on energy facilities, which continue to inflict damage on Ukraine's power system.
Ongoing Assaults on Critical Energy Assets
Notably, on March 26, 2023, Russian forces struck the Kherson Thermal Power Plant, killing a 66-year-old female employee. That same day, six regions experienced partial blackouts:
- Dnipropetrovsk
- Odesa
- Sumy
- Chernihiv
- Zaporizhzhia
- Kharkiv
These events highlight the persistent threats facing Ukraine's energy infrastructure amid ongoing hostilities. The grid, already severely damaged, is struggling to maintain stability under repeated attacks.
Authorities are urging residents to prepare for potential further disruptions and to follow official guidelines on electricity usage during periods of restriction.
The blackouts across Ukraine underscore the dire energy security situation, exacerbated by relentless shelling. The government is enforcing consumption limits to ease strain on a power system that has sustained heavy damage.
In light of these conditions, the public is advised to use electricity sparingly and remain prepared for additional outages in the near future.
