The previous day, July 12, Russian troops dropped nine KAB-250 guided aerial bombs on the city. That assault left three people wounded and caused damage to:

A local resident described the attack's impact: 'We had a direct hit. We smelled gas and called the gas service. They came and shut it off. When we went outside, we found a hole. Our neighbors have the same hole. Now we're cleaning up.'
