According to information from Microsoft Corporation, a global IT outage occurred on July 19, leading to a crash on 8.5 million computers worldwide. This is the largest incident of such a number of devices being damaged and could be the worst cyber event in history. This was reported by the BBC.

According to Microsoft Vice President David Weston, 8.5 million damaged devices make up less than 1% of the total number of Windows computers but have serious economic and social consequences for businesses using CrowdStrike services and running important services.

Microsoft emphasized the importance of quality checks on updates before they are distributed to companies using CrowdStrike services.

Weston said: "This reminds us of the importance of secure deployment and recovery after outages using existing mechanisms in the technology ecosystem for all of us."

The damage from this IT outage was significant. According to Microsoft, this may be the worst cyber event in history, surpassing all previous hacker attacks and device malfunctions.

Numerous countries faced serious disruptions on July 19. Airports, government agencies, banks, logistics carriers, communication operators, and private companies halted their operations. According to Bloomberg, all Windows computers with CrowdStrike antivirus installed were not working.

American airlines faced particularly severe consequences. United Airlines and Delta Airlines canceled flights due to communication issues. Frontier canceled and delayed many flights, accounting for nearly 30% of its total flights. Allegiant and Sun Country also delayed many flights.

There is chaos in foreign airports: passengers cannot check in for subsequent flights and cannot get their luggage. Booking and payment systems are malfunctioning.

CrowdStrike confirmed the link between the vendor's updates and Windows malfunctions. They are currently in the process of rolling back these updates worldwide.

According to CrowdStrike, the mass outage on Windows hosts is related to the Falcon sensor. CrowdStrike Falcon is a comprehensive platform for endpoint security and protection against cyberattacks.
