Ukraine’s Parliament Passes a Bill to Tighten Penalties for Pornography: Here’s What Changes.
Lawmakers Vote on the Pornography Bill
According to Espreso.tv: Lawmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced the parliamentary vote on a proposed law aimed at refining the Criminal Code’s provisions regarding the production and distribution of pornography. The bill received the support of 231 deputies, while 8 voted against it, and 3 chose to abstain.
Next Steps in the Legislative Process
The legislation now moves to a second reading in the Verkhovna Rada. Notably, at the end of May this year, a similar bill—No. 12191—failed to pass, falling 19 votes short. This development highlights ongoing efforts to regulate pornography in Ukraine and underscores the importance of parliamentary oversight in this area.
This vote signals renewed legislative activity on criminal law reforms in Ukraine. Strengthening the rules around pornography could lead to better regulation in this field and help protect citizens’ rights and freedoms. With the second reading still ahead, the issue remains a priority for both lawmakers and the broader society.
