According to Wizz Air's information, the cancellation of flights will take place in March 2026, which will affect thousands of passengers from the UK. Previously, the airline operated two flights a day from London Gatwick to Vienna, but in winter their number will be reduced to one per day.

The flights were scheduled to operate until August 2026, which will also affect travelers.

“We are closing operations in Vienna. After a strategic review, we are gradually winding down our base in Vienna.”
“Two aircraft and two routes, to Billund and London Gatwick, will be closed on October 26, 2025, while all three aircraft and other routes will cease operations on March 15, 2026.”

The airline stated that passengers with bookings to Vienna after this date will be informed about refunds.

Affected employees will receive support in the form of relocation opportunities and alternative vacancies.

A representative of Wizz Air commented: “We can confirm that Wizz Air will gradually close its base in Vienna following a strategic review of its operations and fleet distribution.”

“Wizz Air constantly monitors the performance of its routes to ensure the lowest prices for the most popular destinations.”
“Passengers with bookings on flights that are to be canceled will be directly informed about the possibility of a full refund, Wizz credits, or rebooking on an alternative flight.”
Brits can still reach Vienna with other airlines such as Ryanair and easyJet Alamy

Wizz Air also plans to cancel flights to Budapest from Liverpool and Glasgow. Flights from Liverpool will cease on October 24, and from Glasgow on October 25. It should be noted that flights from Liverpool started in 2016, adding routes to Gdansk, Katowice, Bucharest and Warsaw. The Glasgow to Budapest flight began operating in 2023, replacing the flight from Edinburgh.

Now Brits will have to go to Edinburgh to reach Budapest with Ryanair, which still operates direct flights to that city.

The airline plans new routes that will start next summer. Brits will be able to head to the sun in Billund, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, and Seville from March 29, 2026. All flights will depart from London Luton.
