The newly elected US president Donald Trump has a debt of over 500 million dollars
According to CBS News, the newly elected US president Donald Trump owes over 500 million dollars in a civil fraud case. The spokesperson for the New York State Attorney General confirmed that as of January 16, the total debt amounted to over 502 million dollars.
The decision regarding Trump's debt has not yet been made public
In February 2024, the New York state court imposed a policy of daily penalties, which amounted to over 114 thousand dollars, on the debt of 464 million dollars. It is noted that the court's decision is pending appeal. Trump hoped for a reprieve from the Appellate Division of the First Department of the New York Court; however, some of the appellate judges expressed doubts about such a decision.
Trump may take the oath as president while in debt to New York State
Interest in this case continues to grow, especially given that the decision regarding Trump's debt has not yet been made public. According to CBS News, there is a high likelihood that Trump will take the oath as president while in debt to New York State, which exceeds the budget for 2025 for some cities in the state.
