CBS on the Summit in Germany: Biden, Scholz, Macron, and Starmer Confirmed Unity on Ukraine.
U.S. President Joe Biden held a meeting with European partners in Berlin, where he emphasized the importance of "maintaining our resolve" in supporting Ukraine.
On Friday, Biden met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Besides the situation in Ukraine, leaders discussed the conflict in the Middle East.
"We had very good meetings today with the 'Quad'. There was unanimity on continuing the support for what is happening in Ukraine, aiding the Ukrainians," Biden told reporters after concluding the visit.
Scholz emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine: "We will stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes." He also noted Biden's leadership in rallying global support for Ukraine.
During the visit, Biden received the highest class of the German Order of Merit. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier emphasized the importance of friendship with the U.S. for Germany.
Biden also urged Israel to pursue peace following the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, calling it a "moment of justice."
Biden's visit comes in the context of approaching presidential elections in the U.S., raising concerns among European leaders about potential changes in U.S. foreign policy if Donald Trump wins.
