President Zelenskyy Meets with Ihor Klymenko

According to Espreso.tv: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has revealed that he met with Ihor Klymenko and proposed appointing him as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC). The Cabinet of Ministers is currently preparing a decree to formalize Klymenko's nomination. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for Klymenko's service within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, noting that

“there were many difficult challenges, and the response was always effective”
.

Assessing Klymenko's Track Record

Ihor Klymenko served as Minister of Internal Affairs for over three years. Newly appointed Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky praised his performance, describing him as a

“strong, professional, clear-headed, and results-driven leader”
. However, lawmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported that Klymenko has declined the position of Defense Minister, adding a new layer of intrigue to his potential appointment at the NSDC.

Zelenskyy also underscored the imperative of fully implementing decisions made by the NSDC and the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff:

“Every decision of the NSDC of Ukraine and the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief must be carried out in full and on time”
. This highlights the seriousness with which Ukraine approaches national security and defense matters.

Klymenko’s possible appointment as NSDC Secretary underscores the need for stable leadership in Ukraine’s national security apparatus, especially amid ongoing threats. His extensive experience in the Interior Ministry could prove valuable in this new capacity, as the NSDC plays a pivotal role in shaping the country's defense strategies. Turning down the defense portfolio may signal his intent to focus squarely on security coordination — a critical priority given external aggression.
