Nuno Mendes closes restaurant Lisboeta to start a new chapter
According to The Sun: Renowned chef Nuno Mendes has bid farewell to his popular Portuguese restaurant Lisboeta, which will close its doors for good this weekend.
Opened in 2022, Lisboeta was Mendes's tribute to Lisbon and quickly gained recognition as one of the top 100 restaurants in the UK.
“Dear friends, after an incredible journey lasting almost four years, Lisboeta, as we know it, will close this autumn.
“We have had an amazing journey and it has been fantastic to see the love and support from our guests from the very first day of opening.
“I am proud that we have helped to establish Portuguese food culture here in London and beyond.
“Our incredible teams, past and present, made this possible with their passion, dedication, and hard work. Our successes have been achieved thanks to you.
“Thank you all. Lisboeta is a deeply personal passion project and brand that I would like to expand and grow internationally.
“The first steps will be taken in Lisbon, and then we will go to other, more distant territories.
“I will continue to focus on my projects in Portugal, Cozinha das Flores and The Largo in Porto, as well as Santa Joana in Lisbon.
“Both are gaining momentum, and we have many more goals to achieve.”
Mendes will hand over the reins to Portuguese chef Leandro Carreira, who will take over operations at the restaurant in Fitzrovia.
The MJMK restaurant group, owners of the venue, will relaunch the space under the name Luso, with a grand opening planned for September after renovations.
The decision to transition from Lisboeta to Luso was reached amicably, and Mendes looks forward to focusing on his culinary projects in Portugal while the new establishment will offer simple, traditional Portuguese cuisine.
After four successful years of operation, Nuno Mendes has decided to close his restaurant Lisboeta in London to concentrate on culinary projects in Portugal. His next project is the restaurant Luso under the guidance of Portuguese chef Leandro Carreira, which will offer classic Portuguese dishes.Read also
