Hrytsak on elections in Ukraine: chances for voting during the war are minimal.
According to ТСН: The prospect of holding elections in Ukraine during the war remains uncertain due to technical difficulties and public opinion.
Expert opinion
Historian and publicist Yaroslav Hrytsak shared his vision of the situation in an interview.
“There are chances, but they are minimal. Besides technical reasons – how to organize elections at the front and for those voters who are currently outside Ukraine – there is another circumstance: the overwhelming majority of Ukrainians do not agree to elections during the war,” said the historian.
He added that many citizens believe that elections should be postponed until a safer time, after the war is over.
International situation
It should be noted that U.S. President Donald Trump expressed the opinion that it is time for presidential elections in Ukraine, as they have not been held for a long time. He also pointed out that Kyiv is using the war as an excuse to delay voting.
Position of the Ukrainian authorities
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that elections would only be possible on the condition of a ceasefire for 60-90 days and the establishment of security infrastructure. He emphasized that the priority remains the safety of citizens and the stability of the state during the war.
According to information, Zelensky instructed the development of a draft law on elections during military actions, responding to Trump's words. This initiative is intended to demonstrate Kyiv's readiness to hold voting but requires the efforts of partners to pressure Russia to stop shelling.
Thus, the question of holding elections in Ukraine remains open and requires not only internal consensus but also international support. The current situation shows how important it is to maintain security and stability in a difficult time for the country before moving on to the electoral process.
