According to ТСН: The government of Ukraine has banned the disconnection of medical institutions from electricity during the implementation of light limitation schedules. This decision was made by the Cabinet of Ministers, preparing the country for the autumn-winter period of 2025/26.

This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenco.

The ban is enshrined in a government document that concerns measures to ensure stable electricity supply during the cold period. This document requires responsible individuals to unconditionally comply with the established requirements.

Main principles

The main principle is that healthcare facilities cannot be disconnected from electricity under any circumstances, even if hourly or emergency schedules are applied.

Who will control the enforcement

The control over compliance with this decision is assigned to the relevant supervisory authorities. In particular, the State Energy Supervision will promptly conduct inspections for possible violations, especially in Lviv.

The government emphasizes that any violations of this decision will lead to consequences for the responsible individuals.

The Cabinet stresses that the issue of energy supply to hospitals cannot be a subject of political or informational manipulation.

“Health and lives of people are not a reason for manipulation and loud headlines,” emphasized Svyrydenco.

Context of events

Recall that on the night of January 7, part of the hospitals and all municipal electric transport were disconnected in Lviv. The city mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, explained that this happened due to a change in the government's approach to defining critical infrastructure, as a result of which medical institutions and electric transport temporarily fell under the general disconnection schedules.

As of 10:20, electricity supply to part of the critical infrastructure facilities was restored, and the city authorities, together with the government, began urgent coordination to avoid similar situations in the future.

This government decision underscores the importance of maintaining uninterrupted electricity supply for medical institutions, especially during a difficult winter period. Ensuring energy for hospitals will provide the appropriate level of medical care and help avoid serious consequences for the health of the population.
