Denying the sense of the "Christmas truce"

According to ТСН: Even if Russia agreed to a "Christmas truce," it would bring no advantages on the front, as the occupiers have never adhered to promised agreements.

This opinion was expressed by Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Deputy Commander of the Third Army Corps, Maksym Zhorin on Telegram.

"In reality, there is no sense in 'Christmas' or other short-term truces. Agreeing for us is purely a political step," explains the military.

Zhorin also wondered why Russia rejected the idea of a "Christmas truce," as Russians usually like such propaganda narratives.

"And even if they agreed, it has never worked. I do not remember any 'holiday truce' that the Russians adhered to, because there is no real control system for it," said the military.

Doubts about long-term peace

In his opinion, there are similar doubts regarding a long-term ceasefire. Sometimes it is unclear who will control the silence regime and what the consequences of its violation could be.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, summarizing negotiations between Ukraine and the USA, called on Russia to agree to a "Christmas truce," which, according to him, could be the "beginning of constructive, sober negotiations that would lead to lasting peace in Ukraine."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also supported the idea of a Christmas truce. In contrast, a representative of Russian dictator Putin, Dmitry Peskov, rejected this proposal, claiming that Ukraine could use it as an opportunity to regroup its forces.

Thus, it is evident that the issue of the "Christmas truce" provokes significant controversy and misunderstanding. And although some politicians support this idea as a step towards peace negotiations, military experts warn about the lack of trust in such agreements, which means that any attempts to achieve peace may face serious difficulties.
