Cabbage prices have sharply risen by 25% in a week: what is happening in the market.
According to ТСН: In Ukraine, cabbage prices have noticeably increased. Over the last week, wholesale prices rose on average by 25% due to a significant reduction in stocks in farms and a shortage of quality products.
Today, farmers are offering white cabbage for 3–10 UAH/kg ($0.07–0.23/kg). In comparison, at the end of last week, prices were significantly lower. The main reason for the price increase was the shortage: most producers have already sold their stocks by the end of December, and there are almost no vegetables of average or low quality left on the market.
Additionally, farmers have started to store quality cabbage in warehouses, hoping for further price increases. Although prices have risen, they are still 82% lower compared to the same period last year, a consequence of overproduction of "borscht set" vegetables in 2025.
Forecasts for price dynamics
Market experts expect further price increases. They predict that the rate of price growth will accelerate as supply from local farms continues to decrease.
It should be noted that in December 2025, the rate of growth of consumer prices slowed to 0.2% per month; however, on a yearly basis, inflation stands at 8.0%.
At the beginning of 2026, Ukrainians will face a challenging price situation: high-fat dairy products and some vegetables will become cheaper, but bread, eggs, and greenhouse vegetables will continue to become more expensive.
Thus, seasonal price fluctuations for cabbage and the associated shortage highlight the need for careful market monitoring. In the context of a challenging economic situation, it is important to be aware of price changes in order to plan purchases and budgets for the future.
