Sharp Increase in Cabbage Prices in Ukraine: What is Happening in the Market.
Price Increase of Cabbage in Ukraine
According to inkorr.com: Recently, there has been a sharp rise in prices for white cabbage in Ukraine. According to EastFruit analysts, this is due to seasonal factors: the average varieties of cabbage have almost sold out, and late harvests have begun to appear on the market only from certain farms. Limited supply combined with high demand has led to an increase in prices for this vegetable.
At the beginning of September, farmers are selling cabbage at prices ranging from 7 to 16 hryvnias per kilogram, depending on the quality and volume of the product. This is approximately 27% more than last week. Producers note that there is almost no medium-season cabbage available at the moment, and late harvests have not yet gained popularity. Demand remains high, which drives prices up.
“This is a typical period of shortage between harvest waves when buyers are forced to pay more for limited quantities of products,” market participants note.
Despite the price increase, cabbage in Ukraine remains cheaper compared to last year. It is currently 36% more affordable than during the same period in 2024.
Experts predict that at the beginning of next week prices may rise further. However, with the mass arrival of late varieties, the situation may change as this could drastically lower cabbage prices.
Cabbage is one of the most favorite vegetables in Ukraine. The seasonal price increase in the spring-summer period is traditionally associated with the absence of medium-season harvest and the transition between batches of different varieties. While prices may rise, they usually decrease over time.
