Accusations in the death of the climber
The climber is accused of leaving his partner to die on Austria's highest peak. According to prosecutors, 36-year-old Thomas Plamberger abandoned his girlfriend, 33-year-old Kerstin Gurtner, at an altitude of 12,460 feet (about 3,798 meters) on Grossglockner, where she unfortunately froze to death. Plamberger allegedly did not make any calls for help until the early hours and did not call for rescuers.“Leaving your partner to die is terrible,” prosecutors stated. The case has caused significant public outcry as the tragedy occurred on a popular classic route among climbers. Questions about safety and responsibility in such situations have sparked broad discussions within climbing circles and among fans.
