According to ТСН: The winter season makes the castles of the Lviv region even more attractive to tourists, as the snow gives them a special charm. Palaces and fortresses, such as the Pidhoretsky, Olesky, and Zhovkva castles, become popular places for trips and photo sessions.

Pidhoretsky Castle

Pidhoretsky Castle is located in the village of Pidhirtsi, Zolochiv district, 80 km from Lviv. This palace-fortified complex from the 17th century features bastions, a terraced park, and the Church of St. Joseph. As noted by 'Photos of Old Lviv', it is often compared to Versailles due to its majestic architecture and atmosphere, as well as the legend of the White Lady—a ghost that wanders the corridors of the castle.

Olesky Castle

Olesky Castle, located in the village of Olesko, 70 km from Lviv, has been known since the 13th century. It is also a museum-reserve, preserving collections of paintings, sculptures, and icons. In the winter period, the castle grounds and internal exhibitions operate on a reduced schedule, but the snow and fog around the castle hill make walks especially atmospheric. As stated by the museum,

'small halls with exhibitions will allow you to wait out the cold indoors with interest.'

Zhovkva Castle

Zhovkva Castle is located in the center of Zhovkva and, together with the market square, forms a historical and architectural reserve. After the completion of a long restoration, the castle has opened 11 halls with an area of about 700 sq. m, showcasing up to 200 exhibits, including portraits, icons, and decorative art. In the winter period, the castle is operational and is a convenient location for daytime visits from Lviv, as it is located just 25 km from the city. Additionally, you can combine a visit to the castle with a walk through the old Zhovkva.

Other Interesting Places

In addition to traditional castles, tourists should visit the State Historical and Cultural Reserve 'Tustan' near the village of Urych—this is a rocky massif with reconstructions of a wooden fortress, virtual models, and winter routes. The National Nature Park 'Skole Beskids' is also popular, where you can enjoy marked hiking trails and skiing on small local slopes.

Let us remind you that we previously reported that the main Christmas tree of Lviv is already being transported to the city and is planned to be installed in front of the Opera House square.

Winter months are a great opportunity for excursions and new experiences. The Lviv region offers many options for those who want to enjoy the cultural heritage and natural beauty of the area. Visiting castles not only helps you fully feel the atmosphere of history but also enjoy outdoor recreation.
