Some Ukrainians in Poland may stop receiving a popular social payment.

The Law and Justice Party has amended the law restricting the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) program, which provides payments of 800 zlotys for each child. This was reported by PAP.
According to these amendments, ZUS assistance for children will only be received by Ukrainians who work and pay taxes.
The Mayor of Warsaw and presidential candidate from the Civic Coalition, Rafał Trzaskowski, expressed his support for this idea. He believes that refusing to pay benefits to unemployed Ukrainians is a sensible decision and will be beneficial for Poland.
Support for Trzaskowski's position was also expressed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and head of the Polish People's Party, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
«For me personally, this idea is the most acceptable. Poles open their hearts, their homes, we help, we provide social assistance, we ensure medicine, education in schools. But we also expect that these will not only be expenses from the state budget of our taxpayers. [There should be] a contribution to the Polish economy, a contribution to all these expenses incurred by the Polish state», he stated.
Currently, assistance of 800 zlotys is provided to Ukrainians and Poles for each child until they reach the age of 18. However, refugee children are required to attend schools in Poland, otherwise, payments will be canceled.
It is also worth mentioning that most Ukrainians in Poland came there recently. The largest number - 37% - settled in the country less than six months ago. This data was provided by the analytical center of the international employment agency Gremi Personal.
Return of Ukrainians home
It should be noted that Ukrainians who left abroad during the invasion are increasingly deciding to return home. According to the former head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration and deputy head of the President's Office, Viktor Mikita, the main reasons for this are the improvement of working and payment conditions, which are now approaching European standards.
