By the end of next year, we will clear the right bank of Kherson Region of mines – head of the OMA.
The head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, reported that part of the right bank of the Kherson region has already been cleared of mines. According to local authorities' plans, complete demining of the territory is to be completed by the end of 2025, but this depends on the security situation.
Currently, about 1,000 sappers are working in the region, who have already destroyed over 203,000 explosive items. Over 365,000 hectares have been surveyed, 65% of which are fields.
Russian shelling is slowing down the demining process, but there are plans to accelerate this process. The possibility of creating a demining battalion based on the territorial defense or forming mini-squads is being considered.
We are currently working on the issue of creating a demining battalion based on our territorial defense. And there is a second option - forming mini-squads to carry out these tasks. - he said.
Overall, Ukraine has 156,000 square kilometers of potentially contaminated explosive territory, which is 25% of the country's total area. Over the past year, this territory has been reduced by 18,000 square kilometers.
It should be reminded that the occupiers attacked the Kherson region with drones, resulting in injuries.
