BaDM transferred drugs worth 8 million UAH to cancer centers: how it saved dozens of lives

According to ТСН: BaDM is one of the largest distributors of medical products in Ukraine and understands the importance of continuous treatment and timely access to medications. To support seriously ill patients, the company purchased about 100 vials of a drug for treating chronic lymphocytic leukemia for a total of 8 million UAH and donated them for free to cancer centers in Dnipro and Kyiv.

According to the Ministry of Health, chronic lymphocytic leukemia is one of the most common blood cancer diseases. Although the disease is still considered incurable, modern medicine allows for the management of its course, prolonging remission periods and maintaining the quality of life for patients.

The problem of access to therapy

Treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia in Ukraine is carried out according to international clinical protocols, however, there is currently no separate state program that systematically ensures patients have access to modern medications. This leads to the situation where access to innovative therapy often depends on the availability of drugs in medical institutions or the financial means of patients.

“In practice, we often encounter situations where the treatment regimen is properly tailored, but the ability to implement it depends on the availability of the drug. It is the continuity of supply that determines whether the patient can complete the course,” emphasizes the Deputy General Director for Medical Affairs of Dnipro City Hospital No. 4, Inna Kusliy.

The average duration of therapy is approximately six months — six cycles of 28 days. A full course of treatment requires 8-9 vials of the drug, each costing almost 100,000 UAH. This cost makes the medications financially inaccessible for most people.

The medications that BaDM provided to cancer patients allowed many in Dnipro and Kyiv to continue treatment according to international standards.

The use of this agent allows for a deeper response to therapy and prolongs the period of remission. It is extremely important for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia to receive their course without interruptions and in full,” notes the Chief Oncohematologist of the Kyiv Regional Oncology Dispensary, Iryna Hartovska.

Patient experiences: hope for remission

Cancer patients admit that after receiving a diagnosis, the hardest part is not to lose time.

“When I found out about my illness, I was in despair. Life turned upside down in one day. A break or incomplete treatment is very frightening — you can lose the effect. I wouldn’t have been able to buy such medications on my own. I really appreciate the help from BaDM, which allowed me to continue treatment for free,” says a patient from Dnipro City Hospital No. 4, Serhiy Bolbot.

A patient from the Kyiv Regional Oncology Dispensary adds: “We have already started treatment with this drug. Among the other options offered, it suited me best. I feel much better and hope that the positive dynamics will continue,” shares Serhiy Musiychuk.

Corporate social responsibility

Acting General Director of BaDM LLC, Dmytro Babenko, emphasizes that such an initiative is a conscious position of the company: “Working in the healthcare field, we understand that behind every medication are human lives. When access to necessary medicines is limited due to high costs, businesses must take on part of the responsibility to help patients gain a chance at a stable condition and a future.”

Note: BaDM is a national pharmaceutical distributor that supplies medicines to over 18,000 pharmacies and medical institutions in Ukraine. The company has been operating in the market for over 30 years and has open vacancies across the country.

The efforts of BaDM not only contribute to improving access to treatment for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia but also highlight the importance of corporate social responsibility. In times when patients experience a lack of necessary medications, such initiatives become lifesaving for many. Involving businesses in providing assistance in the healthcare sector opens up new opportunities for improving the lives of people battling complex diseases.
