Two boxers died after the tournament in Japan: another fighter is in a coma.
A true boxing show took place in Tokyo on August 2, which unfortunately ended tragically. Two boxers died during the tournament, and another is in a coma, reports Ring Magazine.
Tragedy in the boxing ring of Japan
It is currently known that two Japanese boxers, Hiromasa Urakawa and Shigetoshi Kotari, died from severe head injuries sustained during the fights at the Korakuen Hall tournament.
28-year-old lightweight Urakawa lost consciousness after being knocked out in the eighth round by Yoji Saito.
Urakawa was leading on points during the fight but could not withstand the fatal blow. He was taken to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed a subdural hematoma and performed a craniotomy. Unfortunately, Hiromasa passed away on August 9.
Urakawa managed to fight 10 bouts in the ring, winning seven by knockout, and suffered four losses.
Kotari, who is also 28 years old, lost consciousness as a result of a draw in a 12-round title fight for the OPBF in the super lightweight category.
After the fight, he underwent surgery, but he died on August 8. The boxer had faced off in the ring eight times, achieving five knockout victories, losing twice, and drawing twice.
The boxer who caused injuries to Kotari, Yamato Hata, also ended up in the hospital and is in a coma.
It should be noted that earlier, Tony Bellew assessed the chances of Moses Itauma in the fight against Oleksandr Usyk.
Usyk previously inspired a well-known author to write a new song.
As a result of the tragic events during the boxing tournament in Tokyo, two Japanese athletes died, and another is in a coma. Both boxers, Hiromasa Urakawa and Shigetoshi Kotari, highlighted their lives in the ring, while those left behind departed this world too soon. We sympathize with the families and friends of the deceased, hope for the recovery of the boxer in a coma, and support everyone in the boxing community during this difficult time.
