EasyJet Opens Base in Newcastle Earlier: 11 New Flights to Turkey and Egypt.
News from easyJet: Expansion of Newcastle Base
According to The Sun: The easyJet base in Newcastle will open ahead of schedule, which means the arrival of three new aircraft and new routes. Starting from March 22, 2026, travelers will be able to choose from 11 new destinations from this airport, which made history by being recognized as the best in the world according to the Routes World Awards 2024.
GettyAmong the new destinations are Antalya and Dalaman in Turkey, the Greek islands of Rhodes and Corfu, Faro in Portugal, as well as picturesque Malta, Prague, and the Spanish city of Reus.
An exclusive transfer route between Newcastle and Nice will also be introduced, making travel to southern France even more convenient for British travelers. Direct flights will also launch to North Africa, including the popular Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh and Enfidha in Tunisia.
New Flight Schedule
Flights from Newcastle to Antalya and Enfidha will start on March 22. Then, on March 23, flights to Malaga will commence, and on March 24, to Nice and Dalaman. Flights to Alicante will appear on March 26, and to Malta on March 28. Flights to Reus will begin on March 31, and to Corfu on April 3.
The summer season will bring a new service between Newcastle and Prague, which will start on August 2, and from August 3, travelers will be able to fly to Sharm El Sheikh twice a week.
Kevin Doyle, easyJet's manager in the UK, said: “We are pleased to open our base in Newcastle earlier, demonstrating our confidence in the region, as customers choose us for our reliable brand, unprecedented network, and great fares.”
“Investing in the 11th base in the UK strengthens the easyJet network, positioning it as the carrier of choice for British consumers and meeting the demand for travel, contributing to the growth of our leisure market share in the UK for both the airline and easyJet holidays.”
“The launch of new routes at the start of the season provides our customers in the northeast, south Scotland, North Yorkshire, and Cumbria with more options when booking their holidays for Easter next year, and we can’t wait to welcome them on board.”
Leon McQuaid, Newcastle Airport's Director of Aviation Development, commented: “It's fantastic that easyJet is opening its base at Newcastle Airport ahead of schedule, with flights to 11 new destinations starting earlier than planned, including a new direct service to Nice.”
Overall, the airline will now offer 19 routes from Newcastle Airport, including popular destinations such as Paris, Alicante, Palma, and Majorca.
Charter flights are already available for booking through the easyJet website, with prices starting from £36.99.
Holidays can also be booked on the website, for example, a seven-night holiday at the 3* Ukino Terrace self-catering in Faro costs £402 per person with a departure on April 7, 2026.
easyJet also offers flights to the island often compared to Hawaii, from London from Luton Airport. New flights to Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira will operate twice a week in summer on Mondays and Fridays.
AFPThis island in the Atlantic Ocean is known for its unique volcanic nature and the Laurisilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offering travelers excellent hiking opportunities.
Despite the challenges faced by the aviation industry, easyJet shows intentions to actively grow by opening new routes and improving the quality of service for its customers. This indicates that the demand for travel remains stable, and British travelers can expect even more holiday opportunities in the near future.
