EDF buys 40,000 customers from Utilita: what is known about the transition.
Changes for electricity consumers after EDF's purchase
According to The Sun: Electricity consumers who pay bills are preparing for significant changes: EDF has acquired 40,000 customers from Utilita.
Starting Saturday, November 8, EDF will begin processing Utilita's credit customers.
Utilita credit customers will receive a transferred balance on their new EDF bills AlamyThe transition process is expected to be completed within four days.
Utilita made the decision to sell accounts in order to focus on its pay-as-you-go operations.
Affected customers will receive letters with detailed information about
next steps. There are several important points to consider.
The electricity supply will not be interrupted, and tariffs will remain unchanged during the price cap, which ends on December 31.
Credit customers will see their balance transferred to their new EDF bills.
Utilita will pay all compensations under the Warm Home Discount program prior to the transfer, EDF stated.
Scottish Warm Home Discount recipients will receive payments from Utilita after their eligibility is confirmed by the Department of Work and
Pensions.
All outstanding balances will need to be paid directly to Utilita after receiving the final bill.
If you are concerned about not being able to pay the bill immediately, Utilita is ready to provide assistance.
Customers who pay by direct debit will automatically transition to the new account.
There is no need to send EDF meter readings unless they contact you directly.
Households with old SMETS1 meters may be switched to standard meter mode. However, your supply will continue uninterrupted, and if you wish to return to smart mode, visit the EDF website for smart meters and order their installation.
If you had a scheduled appointment for a smart meter installation with Utilita, it will not take place, and you will need to contact EDF.
EDF will send emails to customers about setting up the new online account as soon as the transition process begins.
EDF is part of the EDF group, the largest electricity producer in the world.
The company provides electricity to over 3 million households in the UK and employs 14,000 staff across England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland.
The CEO of EDF Customers, Philippe Commaret, noted:
“We are pleased to welcome these customers to EDF.
This deal confirms our long-term commitment to providing reliable, customer-focused energy services.”
“With our strong rating on Trustpilot, customers can transition to service from a reliable provider with peace of mind.”
This agreement between EDF and Utilita is important for customers, as it ensures their stability in electricity supply and clarity in service terms. Consumers will receive necessary information at all stages of the transition, making the process as transparent and understandable as possible. We can only hope that these changes will lead to improved service quality and satisfaction with customer needs.
