Restoration of Hilsea Lido

According to The Sun: Hilsea Lido, which has been closed for three years due to extensive reconstruction, is on the verge of reopening.

The pool was initially scheduled to open in the summer, but the opening has been postponed to the autumn, still in line with the celebration of its 90th anniversary.

About the closure and updates

Hilsea Lido in Portsmouth, opened in 1935, was once considered the deepest in the UK with a depth of 4.6 meters.

After nearly 90 years, it was closed in 2022 for necessary updates as part of the 'Levelling Up' program.

7.75 million pounds were allocated for the reconstruction, after which the updates dragged on, and the facility remained closed to visitors.

The pool will soon reopen, receiving a new look and functional interior, although it will no longer be the deepest in the country.

The depth of Hilsea Lido will be 2.6 meters, while its length will remain original at 67 meters.

The area will also receive new showers, benches, tables, and a fountain.

Alongside the pool, there will be areas set up for food and beverage sales, offering hot drinks and snacks, with a wider selection during the summer.

Opening and visiting conditions

Hilsea Lido will be open from 6:00 to 11:00 every day, except on Wednesdays when the facility will be closed.

Regular visitors can purchase a swimming pass for £34 per month.

When purchasing an annual pass, the price drops to £32 per month when paid for 12 months — both options provide unlimited access to swimming.

For increased convenience, a swimming and sauna membership can be obtained.

Unlimited access to the pool and sauna for a year costs £48 per month or £54 for monthly payment.

For single visitors, the price of one swimming session will be £8.

One-time swimming and sauna will cost £12, while family swimming (for one adult and two children) will be £15.

Additional adults for family swimming will cost £5 (maximum one adult), while three additional children can visit for £2 each.

The pool will not be heated; however, a sauna will be available for visitors who want to warm up.
