EU plans to make Trump an offer on arms supplies - media.

The President of the United States will host the Italian Prime Minister at the White House
On Thursday, the President of the United States will host Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the White House. As she gets along well with both Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, great hopes are pinned on her mission.
However, Bild reports that for the European side, one thing is clear: they can only rid themselves of suspended tariffs if they make Trump an attractive offer that he can present to his compatriots as a victory.
'The components for this were still being discussed in secret. Only threatening countermeasures have been publicized in case Trump is unwilling to concede - for example, the introduction of a new tax on American internet giants like Google, Meta, or Amazon. In other words, the infamous 'stick'. But what about the carrot? The essence of the deal: the EU buys more American weapons and gas,' the publication writes.
It has become known that Brussels has quietly inquired in major EU capitals whether the governments of these countries are ready to purchase more weapons and gas from the US.
It is noted that purchasing American weapons within the framework of the EU rearmament program ('Readiness 2030') would mean a departure from previous plans, according to which preference was given to purchases from the European defense industry. The volume of orders: up to 150 billion euros in total.
'Since Meloni is the first representative of Europe to sit at the negotiating table with Trump, Italy's reaction was awaited with particular impatience. And now, Rome has given the green light to both proposals, reports Corriere della Sera. Signals from Berlin are also positive. This means that if Paris does not interfere, movement may emerge in the dispute in the coming hours: EU Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis will head to Washington and wants to speak with his American colleague as soon as possible about a new approach that could reduce the US trade deficit with the EU,' the publication writes.
Diplomats in Brussels hope that Trump may also be interested in a swift resolution to the issue following significant turbulence in the financial markets.
Giorgia Meloni has also stated that she wants to raise the issue of China with Trump. She wants to prevent the EU from concluding a pact with China regarding the tariff dispute, which is another reason why she wants to quickly establish relations with Washington.
'Meloni articulated her goal this way: a '0:0' solution, meaning the cancellation of all tariffs on both sides of the Atlantic. For those who know little about football: '0:0' is the standard result of the tightly-defended Italian national team for decades - so this is practically Italian specialization,' the publication concludes.
