EU Unveils New Sanctions Targeting Russia

According to Espreso.tv: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced a fresh wave of sanctions by the European Union against those involved in the war against Ukraine. A key measure is a ban on entering EU territory for anyone who has served in the Russian armed forces since the conflict began.

This restriction applies not only to active soldiers but also to all individuals who participated in military operations on Russia’s side. Von der Leyen made a firm statement:

“For the first time, we are proposing to deny entry to the European Union for anyone who has served in Russia’s armed forces since the start of the war.” - Ursula von der Leyen

She added that “Europe will remain closed to all those who took part in the invasion of Ukraine.”

EU’s Broader Strategy Against Aggression

On June 8, 2023, it was reported that the EU was preparing additional sanctions against both Russia and Iran in light of the ongoing conflict. These actions highlight the bloc’s growing determination to counter aggression and stand with Ukraine.

The newly imposed sanctions are part of the European Union’s broader strategy to respond to Russian aggression and support Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty. By restricting access to European countries for individuals engaged in military actions that destabilize the region, the EU aims to reinforce its stance. These measures also underscore the bloc’s unity in condemning Russia’s actions and its commitment to fostering peace in Europe.
