The EU introduces restrictions for Chinese medical equipment manufacturers.
The European Union is preparing to impose restrictions on Chinese medical equipment manufacturers during participation in public procurement due to Beijing's biased approach towards foreign companies. This position from Beijing has led to a change in the trade balance between the EU and China, reported the European Union.
A study conducted in 2020 showed that Beijing supplies with bias towards foreign companies. Despite prolonged consultations, an alternative solution has not yet been reached.
“Beijing's focus on its own technologies in the medical field has been intensified in recent years due to strict requirements for domestic production for many types of equipment.”
According to the EU, the change in China's policy in the medical equipment sector transformed a trade deficit of 1.3 billion euros in 2019 into a surplus of 5.2 billion euros in 2020.
The EU also notes that Beijing plans to achieve domestic leadership in the market in the segment of core medical equipment components - 85% by 2025, and in the high-tech sector - 70%.
