About the city

Nessebar is divided into Old and New Town. The New Town is full of seafood restaurants, shops, trendy bars, and hotels.

The Old Town, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, is connected to the mainland by a narrow bridge.

At the approach to Old Nessebar stands a windmill, built in the 19th century, which is a symbol of the town's rich maritime history.

In Old Nessebar, several ancient ruins and monuments can be found, including the Church of St. Stephen, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the 11th century.

Among the significant ancient monuments in Nessebar is the Thracian necropolis, dating back to the 6th century BC, with 40 tombs. There is also the Nessebar Archaeological Museum, which offers an intriguing insight into the city's history.

“One of the cheapest and most delicious ways to eat in the Old Town is at the 'Hemingway' restaurant. I enjoyed traditional Bulgarian dishes like banitsa (a pastry snack) and kebapche (fried meat dish), treating myself to stunning sea views. The lunch cost £6, and the cocktail was £4.”

The South Nessebar beach is famous for its golden sand and bright waters. Another popular beach is Irakli, which is about a 30-minute drive from Nessebar.

Thanks to mild temperatures in October, with an average daily temperature of 18°C, Nessebar becomes a pleasant place to relax in the autumn.
