According to ТСН: The poet and composer Yevhen Rybchynskyi shared the reasons for his temporary move to the USA and whether he holds American citizenship. In an interview with Alone, Rybchynskyi revealed that he decided to leave Ukraine in 2010 after Viktor Yanukovych came to power. At first, he thought his connections could provide a certain level of security, but in reality, it turned out to be quite different. Together with his second wife, they discussed the possibility of having a child in the USA, so the political situation also became an important factor for the move.

“When Yanukovych came to power, I thought my connections would create some security balance, but it turned out not to be the case. My then-wife was pregnant. It was 2010. She has an American sister. We were already thinking about giving birth in America. And just like that, such a reason is not the best. I had to close the publishing house. I closed the publishing house at the peak of popularity,” he told Anna Sevastyanova.

Despite his stay in the USA, Rybchynskyi did not view this country as a place for permanent residence. He explained why he did not stay there for long, despite the opportunities and regular performances. The poet also shared his experiences collaborating with the Ukrainian diaspora in the USA, noting that the tours left mixed impressions. Furthermore, he denied rumors about having American citizenship or a green card.

“What’s there to do? Work in a taxi? What to be there? I worked with the diaspora. These are the people who would suffocate for 20 dollars. I toured the East Coast with concerts in 2013. I was reproached for charging 20 dollars for admission. I would say that Ukrainians in Ukraine are much more generous and humane. I do not have American citizenship, I just never aimed for that. And sometimes they attributed green cards to me. I never had them. And thank God. There was always the question: and who am I here? Who am I in Ukraine, even without a job, I know for sure. Because even what I wrote in the 90s feeds me to this day. Here you can earn money. In America, you can't die of hunger, but to rise and become one of the Americans, you have to be born and raised there,” Rybchynskyi emphasized.

Let’s recall that recently Yevhen Rybchynskyi became a grandfather for the second time. It is known who among his sons had a granddaughter.

Thus, Rybchynskyi's story opens new facets of his life beyond Ukraine, raising questions of identity and the difficulties of immigrant existence. Despite his desire not to stay in the USA permanently, his connection to Ukrainian culture remains strong, and his creativity continues to bear fruit.
