Fico announced that Slovakia is halting assistance to Ukraine after the failed meeting between Zelensky and Trump.
Ukraine is losing military and financial assistance from Slovakia. This was announced by Prime Minister Robert Fico in his statement on social media X, as reported by 'Hvylya'.
'We will not provide financial and military support to Ukraine in order not to contribute to the continuation of the war. If other countries decide to do so, we will respect their decision,' the statement says.
Fico called the strategy for resolving the conflict through force 'unrealistic' and says that such actions may lead to the prolongation of the war. He is convinced that Ukraine will not be strong enough to negotiate on a military basis.
'According to the conclusions of the EU summit (March 6, 2025), Slovakia suggests an immediate ceasefire (regardless of reaching a final peace agreement), but President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and many EU member states reject this,' the statement notes.
Furthermore, Slovakia demands the inclusion of a provision in the summit conclusions regarding the restoration of gas transit through Ukraine to Slovakia and Western Europe.
Fico also stated the need to increase Europe's defense capabilities.
It is worth mentioning that Orban and Fico, despite the experience of Russian invasions, support Putin.
